Labels and other guarantees

Labels help you make informed choices about the durability of your purchases. They give you information in the blink of an eye about the environmental requirements or social conditions in which the product was made.

Our partner brands all have sustainable, social values and promote organic materials. Some of them are certified with labels, others are not. Nevertheless, they are all brands with quality products and strong environmental and societal concerns.

Global Organic Standard Textile (GOTS) is considered the most comprehensive label, it is a reference on a global level, with strict criteria and credible control. It guarantees a minimum of 70% certified organic fibre, low-impact manufacturing and decent working conditions. The “GOTS Level I” label also guarantees a minimum of 95% of certified organic fibres.

Environmental criteria cover all stages of production, from raw material harvesting, manufacturing to labelling.

The label GOTS focuses on textile fibres and ensures that they come from organic farming and have lowest possible impact.

Toxic or carcinogenic substances, endocrine disruptors, pesticide or heavy metal residues and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are obviously not tolerated. There are also criteria for colour stability, washing and drying resistance and maximum water emission standards when producing textiles.

As far as social criteria are concerned, the label only takes into account working conditions during textile processing and not when growing cotton. These conditions include:

    • Compliance with the key conventions of the ILO
    • Prohibition of forced or compulsory labour
    • Freedom of association and the right to collective consultation
    • Safety and hygiene in the workplace
    • Prohibition of child labour, discrimination, physical abuse or other forms of bullying
    • Compliance with national legal requirements in terms of salary and hours of work
    • No minimum price or fair trade premium for producers.

    2. Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX (Confidence in Textile)

    Restrictions of harmful substances
    Yes
    Controlled by an independent organization

     Quality criteria Yes

The international label Oeko-tex 100 is not an organic certification. It however guarantees that the finished product does not contain any substances harmful or dangerous to humans and nature. Also, when necessary, it respects the rates specified by the legislation.

The more the fabric in question comes into contact with the skin or might be worn by children, the more stringent the criteria of the label. The health of the children and the protection of the environment are therefore the priorities of the Oeko-tex 100 label.

There are also criteria in terms of colour stability and washing resistance.

    3. Fairtrade

     Social criteria Yes

The goal of Fairtrade is to provide a system that allows international trade to evolve towards greater justice, respect and fairness.

The Fairtrade label helps consumers identify fair trade products whose production, processing and marketing meet Fairtrade standards. These standards aim to ensure democratic organisational structures, environmental protection and better working conditions.

For cotton cultivation, Fairtrade imposes a range of social criteria based on the ILO conventions:

    • The prohibition of forced or compulsory labour
    • Freedom of association
    • A guaranteed minimum salary and the right to collective consultation
    • A maximum work week of 48 hours
    • The prohibition of child labour and discrimination

The label allows local producers to obtain a more stable and fair price and establish more sustainable commercial relationships. People working on plantations receive a Fairtrade bonus to fund community projects and improve the life of the community. By consuming Fairtrade, you are helping to provide a fair and rewarding salary for workers.

Fairtrade is also interested in agro-ecological practices for the protection and preservation of biodiversity. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and the most harmful pesticides are therefore prohibited.
