The annual meeting has finally arrived: Fashion Revolution Week takes place from April 18 to 24, 2022. It is the biggest movement of fashion activism worldwide. The theme of this year: Money Fashion Power. In this new article, we explain what Fashion Revolution is and how to participate.
What is Fashion Revolution?
The quest for responsibility, ethics and transparency throughout the fashion industry has grown in recent years. Since 2013, Fashion Revolution has been fighting against an unjust fashion, which too often ignores workers' rights and has a far too aggressive and harmful impact on our planet.
Its objective is to raise awareness among fashion producers, brands and consumers at the real cost of clothing and to seek sustainable solutions for the future of the fashion industry.
At its origin, the Rana Plaza disaster
The movement began in the United Kingdom after the collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh. On April 24, 2013, the disaster left 1139 dead and 2,500 injured. It is considered one of the largest tragedies in the fashion industry today.
At the time of the accident, the building housed more than 5,000 employees. They worked in a clandestine workshop responsible for providing world -known Fast Fashion brands. This disaster could have been avoided: the day before, several workers had expressed their doubts about the solidity of the building. Fearing to lose their jobs, they still went to work that day, for the last time.
Some brands have assumed their responsibility and promised to support the victims and their families, but the aid has not arrived effectively, even after so many years.
Since then, the movement has gained world magnitude, present in 90 countries. He asks the fashion industry to favor people and the planet rather than growth and profit.
How to participate in the 2022 edition?
As citizens of the world, we all have the power to act. It is time to commit us together for a new respectful, innovative and ethical fashion system.

Money Fashion Power
The theme of this year Fashion Revolution Week is Money Fashion Power.
The traditional fashion industry is based on the exploitation of work and natural resources. Wealth and power are concentrated in the hands of a few, and growth and profit are rewarded above all. The big brands produce too much and too quickly, and citizens are victims of overconsumption.
Meanwhile, the majority of people who make our clothes are not paid enough to meet their basic needs and already feel the effects of the climate crisis, which the fashion industry feeds.
This year's discussions focus on fair remuneration and safe working conditions.
